I Do Not Understand
In a dark Panera in September 2021, I wrung my wrestling thoughts and emotions into this poem. It’s a prayer, it’s a memorial of sorts,
Rebekah Jones is first and foremost a follower of the Living God. She started writing as a little girl, seeking to glorify the Lord with her books and stories.
Rebekah is an old soul in a young body (she’s not 12 —honest!) While her exact age is classified, her interests are not. Among them are reading a variety of books, singing, playing, and composing music, studying all manner of subjects, living the adventure of life with the people around her, keeping up with her day job, and, of course, writing her books, poems, articles, and short stories. She writes both historical and modern fiction, and enjoys bringing both worlds to life.
It’s an ordinary Tuesday morning.
The regulars are settling in with their coffees and their laptops, when an explosion rips through the air. No one can see what happened nor can they get out of the café. Stranded and perplexed, the people need answers. What caused the explosion? Where are the police? Why isn’t the man in the corner moving? And when will that woman stop screaming?
